Fearing the prediction, the prince’s wife did everything to save her husband. On the predicted night, she decided to keep her husband awake. By beautifying the entrance with bright shimmering diyas, gold and silver coins, and ornaments and singing melodious songs.

As the story goes, Yama, the god of death, arrives in the form of a snake to kill the prince. But, he was puzzled by the lamps shining jewellery, the melodious songs, and the wife’s devotion. Yama was so involved that he sat lost the whole night, forgetting about his task. When morning came, he quietly left, sparing the prince’s life.

The tale of King Hima’s son describes the celebration of light over darkness, and it’s a reminder of the importance of family bonds and protection.
